Blowfish Blow Past Fayetteville
The Columbia Blowfish offense continued its swagger at home. Columbia scored 10 runs for the second consecutive game at Capital City Stadium, as it raced past the Fayetteville Swampdogs 10-0 Wednesday night. Every Blowfish batter reached base at least once as Columbia (3-3) slugged thirteen hits, ending Fayetteville (2-4) starter Matt Dalby's night in the second inning. Jason Coker got things started with a first inning home run, the first of the season for Columbia. Nick Chinners hit an RBI single later in the inning to score Matt Leeds as Columbia took an early 2-0 lead. That would be all Columbia starting pitcher Justin Hopper required, as he shut down a struggling Fayetteville offense. Hopper (1-0) allowed only one hit in five innings, shutting out the Swampdogs to earn his first win. Patrick Sullivan struck out six in four innings of relief for the Blowfish. Dalby (0-1) suffered the loss in his first start. Gabe Grammar, who came into the game without a hit, was 4 for 4, with four singles, two RBI, and a run. Columbia will travel to Florence Thursday for a 7:05 p.m. game against the division-leading Red Wolves. The Blowfish's next home game will be against Thomasville on Saturday night. Notes: There was some confusion in the top of the 9th, when Fayetteville accidentally skipped a batter. The Swampdogs sent a pinch hitter into Airlon Vinson's slot, but Fayetteville 2B Austin Lasprilla incorrectly believed he was being hit for, and did not go to bat. The umpires did not appear to notice at the time… Swampdogs' manager Darrell Handelsman was ejected in the 2nd inning for arguing a balk call against Dalby.
