WILSON- Jason Coker had three hits and drove in two runs for the Columbia Blowfish as they rallied past the Wilson Tobs to win 6-3 Friday night at Fleming Stadium in Wilson.
Starter Tyler McBride (1-1) pitched six innings, giving up two runs on nine hits for Columbia (2-3) to earn the win. Wilson (4-2) reliever Brent Haynes (0-2) was charged with the loss. Drew Mahaffey picked up his second save.
Wilson struck first. Three Tob batters singled to load the bases in the second inning. Aaron Watkins then grounded into a fielders choice that scored Jake Astor, giving Wilson an early 1-0 lead. The Tobs made it 2-0 in the fourth inning when Xavier Macklin grounded into a double play, scoring Astor a second time.
The Blowfish narrowed the gap 2-1 in the sixth when Matt Leeds hit a sacrifice fly to left, allowing Cameron White to score.
Columbia rallied in the seventh to take the lead. Shawn Glover led off the inning with a walk, then stole second. Jason Coker scored Glover with a double to left to tie the game 2-2. White hit an RBI double in the seventh inning to score Coker, giving Columbia the lead. White then scored on Catlin Carter's single and Leeds hit another sacrifice fly to give the Blowfish a 5-2 lead.
Columbia added another run in the eighth as Coker singled home Nick Chinners to make it 6-3. Wilson had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Mahaffey struck out two, and forced a groundout to give the Blowfish the win.
Notes: Wilson wore special pink jerseys for Breast Cancer Awareness Night... The Blowfish have allowed their opponents to score first in all five games so far this season.... Columbia returns home Wednesday night to take on the Fayetteville Swampdogs at 7:05 p.m. at Capital City Stadium.
